  1. Samudera Pasifik, dengan luas 165.385.450 km persegi. Pasifik berasal dari bahasa Spanyol, pacifico, yang berarti teduh. Maka samudera ini juga dikenal dengan nama lainnya, Lautan Teduh. Luasnya mencakup hampir sepertiga dari luas bumi.
  1. Samudera Atlantik, dengan luas 82.440.830 km persegi. Atlantik berasal dari mitos Yunani yang berarti “Laut Atlas”. Samudera ini dibatasi oleh Benua Amerika, Eropa dan Afrika. Luasnya sekitar seperlima atau 20 % dari luas permukaan bumi.3. Samudera Hindia, dengan luas 73.440.000 km persegi. Nama lain dari Samudera ini adalah Samudera Indonesia karena dibatasi oleh negara Indonesia di sebelah timurnya. Di bagian utara, lautan ini dibatasi oleh Asia Selatan, jazirah Arab dan Afrika di bagian barat dan Antartika di selatan. Luasnya sedikit lebih kecil dari lautan Atlantik.
  2. Samudera Antartika, dengan luas 14.004.030 km persegi. Sesuai namanya, samudera ini berada di sekitar kutub selatan bumi.
  3. Laut Cina Selatan, dengan luas 2.986.100 km persegi. Laut ini terhampar dari SIngapura di bagian selatan hingga ke selat Taiwan. Sebenarnya dianggap sebagai bagian dari Samudera Hindia, namun karena posisinya yang terhalang oleh beberapa negara Asia Tenggara membuat laut ini dikategorikan sebagai laut tepi yang terpisah dari samudera HIndia.
  4. Laut Tengah, dengan luas 2.970.000 km persegi. Dinamakan demikian karena berada di tengah-tengah pertemuan tiga benua yaitu Asia, Eropa dan Afrika. Sering juga disebut laut Mediterania.
  5. Laut Karibia, dengan luas 2.525.640 km persegi dan merupakan salah satu laut terluas di dunia saat ini. Dinamakan demikian karena berada di sekitar kepulauan Karibia. Bersebelahan dengan Samudera Atlantik dan Teluk Meksiko di tenggara.
